Wilpattu Safari Camp – 4 Nights for Wildlife Photography

Spend more time observing, exploring and photographing wildlife with four nights at Wilpattu Safari Camp and eight guided game drives. This five-day stay is designed for wildlife photographers, keen birdwatchers and enthusiasts who want time to pursue several interests across different habitats and times of day.

Among our Wilpattu Tented Camping Safaris, this package offers the most time in the field. Four morning and four afternoon drives provide repeated opportunities to look for Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, elephants and birds. The longer stay also allows you to experience familiar landscapes in changing light and appreciate the behaviour of the animals you encounter.

Your base is Wilpattu Safari Camp, situated just outside the national park boundary near the park gate. Between drives, return for meals, rest and time to prepare your equipment for the next safari.

Day 01: Arrive and discover Wilpattu

12 noon — Meet our crew at the Wilpattu National Park entrance and transfer to Wilpattu Safari Camp, outside the park boundary.
Lunch at camp before your first drive.
Afternoon guided game drive. Begin exploring the park’s forest tracks and natural water bodies. Watch for spotted deer and sambar, while looking for elephants, leopards and sloth bears. Discuss your wildlife and photography interests with your guide.
Dinner and overnight stay at Wilpattu Safari Camp.

Wilpattu 4 Nights and 5 Days Safari Camping

Day 02: Birds and larger mammals

Early morning guided game drive. Spend time looking for Sri Lanka junglefowl along the tracks and painted storks, Asian openbills or little cormorants around the villus. Birds can provide opportunities to photograph feeding, movement and their place in the landscape.
Breakfast back at camp, followed by time at leisure.
Afternoon guided game drive. Give greater attention to leopards, elephants and other mammals. Your guide will assess wildlife activity and choose suitable routes for the drive.
Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 03: Wildlife in different natural settings

Early morning guided game drive. Explore another area or revisit a promising location, looking for sloth bears, leopards and other wildlife. When animals are encountered, take time to observe their behaviour while maintaining a respectful distance.
Breakfast back at camp, followed by time at leisure.
Afternoon guided game drive. Look for wildlife around the park’s water bodies and forest edges. Elephants, purple herons, egrets or mugger crocodiles may offer opportunities to photograph animals within their natural surroundings.
Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 04: Follow your strongest interests

Early morning guided game drive. Use this drive to give more attention to the subjects that interest you most, whether birds, larger mammals or wildlife within the landscape.
Breakfast back at camp, followed by time at leisure.
Afternoon guided game drive. Your seventh safari offers another opportunity to explore in afternoon light, revisit a habitat or look for species you have not yet encountered.
Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 05: Final safari and departure

Breakfast at camp.
Morning guided game drive. Make the most of your eighth safari by following your guide’s advice on current activity. Remain open to both the larger mammals and the smaller wildlife that can make a rewarding final encounter.
Return to camp, then transfer to the park gate for checkout.

Every Wilpattu Safari Camp package includes tented accommodation, all meals from lunch on your arrival day through to breakfast on your departure day, tea and coffee, local spirits, beer and wine.
