Kaudulla National Park, established in 2002 to provide another link in the migratory corridor for elephants, offers a stunning wildlife experience. The centerpiece of this park is the Kaudulla Tank, a picturesque lake where elephants gather in significant numbers, especially when water sources elsewhere dry up. For an unforgettable wildlife adventure, consider embarking on a "Kaudulla Safari Game Drive" within the park. The optimal time to witness this awe-inspiring spectacle is between August and December. Notably, the elephant congregation peaks in September/October, slightly later than the famous Minneriya "Gathering," attracting up to two hundred elephants to the tank. It's important to note that during the wet season, a substantial portion of the park gets submerged underwater, which can make spotting elephants and other wildlife more challenging. The park's diverse landscape, comprising grasslands, scrubby forests, and a rich variety of birdlife, further enhances the enchanting experience of a Kaudulla Safari Game Drive.
