Wilpattu National Park is located 180 km north of Colombo, bordering the northwestern coast of the country, and is the largest wildlife national park in Sri Lanka. According to chronological accounts, it is believed that Prince Vijay (who came from East India in 543 BC and landed in Sri Lanka by accident) at Thambapanni near Mannar, now known as Kudrimale Point (Horse Point) was the founder of the Sinhalese nation.

Fluttering around are several species of butterflies, such as the Blue and Common Mormons, the Common Rose, and the Crimson Rose. Reptiles include Mugger Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards, Pythons, Cobras, Rat Snakes, Star Tortoises, Pond Turtles, and Soft-shelled Turtles, among many more, are also visible at the Wilpattu National Park.
