Safari in Minneriya National Park - Afternoon

An all-inclusive, private Safari in Minneriya National Park - Afternoon, The Best Place to see Elephants in Sri Lanka, The Minneriya National Park is famed for its “Elephant Gathering”, a spectacular phenomenon during the long dry seasons, when hundreds of elephants, both the adults and young along with a few tuskers, can be seen feeding on the grasslands adjacent to the tank, while others cool off in the water. Observing and experiencing this unique wildlife spectacle is one of the main attractions of this annual event, which has been dubbed the largest Wild Elephant Gathering in South Asia.

In addition to the Elephant attraction at the Park, it also has a lot of wildlife, making it a popular safari destination. The park is home to 24 mammals, including endemic monkeys, purple-faced langurs, toque macaques, sambar deer, gray slender loris, and Sri Lankan leopards and sloth bears. A total of 160 bird species are resident and migratory at Minneriya Reservoir, including Lesser adjutants, Painted storks, and Spot-billed pelicans. As part of the endemic species, one can see Sri Lanka Jungle Fowls, Sri Lanka hanging parrots, brown-capped babblers, Sri Lankan gray hornbills, black-crested bulbuls, and crimson-fronted barbells among others.

Safari in Minneriya National Park - Afternoon is a key activity during bird-watching tours in Sri Lanka. A total of nine species of amphibians have been recorded in the park, including Fejervaya pulla and Polypedates cruiger, and 25 species of reptiles, including the endangered Painted-lip lizard and Lankascincus fallax, Saltwater Crocodile, Indian python, Asian water monitor, Bengal monitor, as well as 26 fish species, four of which are endemic to Sri Lanka.
