Located only two hours from Colombo, Kitulgala is a Rain Forest patch that attracts many foreign visitors and residents alike for its natural beauty. A portion of the Academy Award-winning movie The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed near Kitulgala on the Kelani River, but no sign of it remains apart from the concrete foundations. Kitulgala is a popular whitewater rafting destination in Sri Lanka, but you can also enjoy a variety of leisure and adventure activities there.
The following activities are recommended by Sri Lankan Expeditions if you're planning a visit to Kitulgala:
Sri Lankan Rice and curry for lunch and Curd with honey must is highly recommended to experience the local food flavors.
While a stay of one or two nights is recommended, Kitulgala can also be enjoyed in one day. Nevertheless, staying a night will be a nice experience. While the river roars, an eco-lodge at Kitulgala riverbank is an amazing place to stay for a night out.
